Purple vs Pink last night at Centaurs. Gonna ignore the wealth of euphemisms /puns available and concentrate on the match. We started off well, controlling the play, dictating the pace and playing some simple but effective football. A few half chances went amiss, with Sai’s bullet the pick of the bunch. The Rivals keeper however showed us there and then he’d be difficult to beat on the night, with a quick reaction save tipping the ball onto the bar. Our opponents also created 2 good goal scoring opportunities, however Des rushed off his line and made 2 crucial saves/interceptions. Keepers mirroring each others performances which would also prove to be the case later on in the game, however I’ll come to that later. 0-0 at HT. We started off the second half strongly again, creating chance after chance. The deadlock was broken when Ivan the Surgician delivered an inch perfect cross for Wrighty. A streak of bad form and at last 7 sitters missed over the past few fixtures, Joe2 tried his best to continue that run. But the instinct in front of goal kicked in and he somehow found the net and got his first goal of this season. Our second came after the Rivals keeper, who up until that point was having the match of his life, inexplicably decided to pass the ball to Marko who then found Mark3 for his first ever PMFC goal (Mark1 and Mark2 absent for this weeks clash). A minute later and feeling left out, Des decided to show some goalkeeper solidarity by not using his hands after a shot from 25m out. 2-1. We confirmed the win when Harrys cross from a corner found Sai (the shortest man in our team) who headed into an empty net. Overall solid performance. Joe1, Harry, Polo did well in midfield; Felipe, Anton, Ash, Sai and Sam2 dealt well with the Pink threats and Martin2 and Mark3 had solid debuts. A few MOM candidates, but Ash gets it for his sublime performance at LB. Special mention and speedy recovery for Anton. On another note, seems like the most popular English names are Mark, Sam, Joe and James.
