Quite a match of two quality sides, with a rather dramatic finish. We dominated the first half, orchestrating good and fast-paced football, especially our wingers Roman and Oscar caused the French defense plenty of problems. Scoring opportunities became almost inevitable but even the gilt-edged chances were squandered. 0-0 it was at halftime. And if you dont score on one side of the pitch you risk getting penalised on the other: and, indeed, Gauloise started much better into the second half, capitalising twice within 5 minutes on misunderstandings in our defense. Now we had a mountain to climb. But we didn't let go, showed tenacity and once again managed to push the French back into their own half. A penalty kick was converted by Heinz after 63 minutes and we were back into the game. Increasing the pressure further the game now became quite intense: first Marco hit the crossbar and the inner post (perhaps the ball had even crossed the line when it bounced on the ground), minutes leter a header from Tommy Berner hit the crossbar yet again. A French played reveived his second yellow in the last minute of regular time. The freekick was defended. But there was one more attack over the right wing via Roman whose cross met Marco's head ... and the target! 2-2 it was in the end, a fair result of a quality match of football. Our man of the match was Roman whose work rate on the right wing and uofront was amazing. Thanks to Gauloise. We look forward to the rematch.
