The Vikings Vets lost a football game. Sure, we have lost before it has been a while; 3 March 2018 (Season 7) to be exact. The Vikings were short of a great number of regulars. Regular and proper Vets that is, as the Vikings would only ever play a Cosmo player if we, on the rare occassion, are short on numbers. Any team fielding Cosmo players would obviously dominate and kill the Vets fun. Also, now that the Vikings are into BIG DATA we can quickly calculate the average age of the 16 players used against TGA: 46.63.   So, the game started with the Vikings on the heels. TGA launched one attack after the other. First chance came early after a nice flick left one of the TGA strikers with a free shot on goal but Rene made a great save. The Vikings slowly got more control of the game but it was all very even. The Vikings took the lead after a long throw ended up inside the small box where John was first to head in the ball. The half time score was 1-0 for the Vikings.    Second half was a closely contested affair but as the game progressed TGA proved to be the more dangerous side. They fielded several talented players, including their hot blooded Spaniard, but some good Viking defending kept them from creating dangerous chances. Every time TGA got close the the box the ball was cleared, although a few times also the legs of their strikers were cleared, with several free kicks as a result. However, either the Viking wall or Rene caught everything.    The equaliser came after a silly Viking handball in the box. Correct penalty, no doubt. 1-1. The remaining 15 minutes was mainly played in the Viking half but counter attacks gave the Vikings two very large chances to take the lead… a mix of bad decisions and a quality TGA keeper kept the game at 1-1.    With only 5 minutes to play a long TGA throw landed in the box and the ball was somehow headed hard into the ground and bounced over in the long corner, just outside the reach of Rene. 1-2 to TGA. Both teams kept pushing for a goal but with little time left the game ended with a TGA win.    The game was played in very good spirit and we most certainly look forward to our next encounter. All the best to TGA in their upcoming games.

What a great result! Finally we managed to get the three points against vikings after some close calls in the past. Thankfully they have decided to stop bringing their Cosmo players in so it was a true vets team. We went a goal down against the run of play, pulled one back shortly before the second half water break, and we took that momentum thru till the end of the game and won a well deserved penalty to take the win. Excellent performances all round, thanks to vikings for a great match
