Gaelic Lions Vets 0 vs 2 TGA Legends Football Club

A game of few chances and won by TGA's left back (MoM for sure!) who caused no ends of problems from his long throws. We had almost called this one off midweek really struggling for numbers but always worth digging in and great to get the two extra boys arriving on 30 minutes which meant it was good game for all in the end.  Proud of a very battling performance from our lot. We defended superbly againat a full TGA squad. Thought we had a legit goal, hit the wood work and came agonisingly close with a header. Pressure led to TGA's first goal which they deserved and no complaints about their quick thinking on their second with the last kick of the game. P.S. Our lad Varro dodged a horrific injury and is recovering well. Has some torn muscles around his knee and some bone damage. While still a way to recover, lucky lad as that could've been worse. No foul play either just a bad 50-50.

This wasn’t the greatest advert for the vets league with neither team able to impose themselves on the game. That said, what it sometimes lacked in quality it made up for in tenacity and dogged determination. We had more of the ball in the early exchanges without creating a great deal but managed to take the lead shortly after the water break. A long throw from FC caused chaos in the Lions area and Sascha calmly slotted in from 8 yards out. It was a scrappy goal that embodied the type of game it turned out to be. Thereafter apart from a chance that Addy blazed over opportunities were seldom forthcoming. After the break it was much of the same as the well organised Lions stifled our play and were the better team in spells. Late on one or two gaps were starting to appear and after a smart move involving Beech and Boycey, Matty fashioned some space 18 yards out but his goal bound effort frustratingly struck our own Olly. Minutes later a smart ball from Olly caught the defence napping and as Boycey went through his effort was handled outside of the area resulting in a dangerous free kick. Matty very cleverly asked the ref for a quick free kick and a stranded Lions keeper had no chance as he coolly made it 2-0. Jack enjoyed a MOM winning debut and fittingly there was a clean sheet for the departing FC but in truth the 2-0 score line was a little flattering. As always we wish the Lions well for the season and look forward to another battle in the returning fixture.
