Olympique Gaulois Vets 4 vs 1 TGA Legends Football Club

Allez Gaulois, great come back thanks tga for challenging game

Football is a beautiful game and includes both winning and losing. There’s of course no shame in losing, albeit it’s painful but when you conspire to beat yourself it’s not something you forget quickly. We had some early success down the left which resulted in a half volley from Boycey finding itself just wide of the post before he turned provider with a squared ball to Neil which agonisingly evaded his outstretched boot. It would have been a certain goal had contact been made. Shortly after we did take the lead when a fortuitous mix up at the back allowed Beech to roll the ball into an empty net. Not to be outdone we quickly responded with two ‘hold my beer’ moments of our own and 1-0 became 1-2 after a couple of shots that should have been dealt with routinely found their way into the net. Just before HT Addy had a great chance to restore parity but snatched at it and so we concluded the half a goal down. The 2nd half was very much typified by chances. Those that took them and those that didn’t. Minutes after a golden opportunity for Beech had just crept past the post a very well taken goal saw the French extend their lead. At 3-1 we pressed and once again created the better chances with both Glen and Beech unable to take advantage of opportunities that on another day would have yielded 3 goals. As we committed men forward we were caught on the counter and 3-1 became 4-1 which is how it finished. I think the score line flattered but when you gift goals and squander gilt edged chances against decent opposition you get what you deserve. The French were well organised and so I hope this report doesn’t sound like sour grapes but on another day you would see a very different score line. I have to make a special mention for our captain Helmo. It’s an absolute joy to have him back on the pitch with us and something I think all of the lads are delighted with. As for our MOM that goes to Gordon who was once again outstanding. As always we wish the French well and we certainly look forward to locking horns again next season.
