Hibernians United Football Club 4 vs 1 Gaelic Lions Vets

And we're off! Having just come off the back of a pretty poor performance in the last game of the season we were well aware that Gaelic would present a problem as they usually do.  Good availability from the squad so we were able to field a strong team on the day.  We started off well working the ball out from the back into the midfield but our ball into the final third wasn't really finding Bucko or Dash.  It quickly became a game being played out across the middle of the park without any real chances in front of goal.  Twenty minutes in and with the drhnks break we made changes across the park.  One of those was to have an instant impact when Patrick, with his first touch of the ball, calmly lobbed the keeper from about 20 yards out.  One up and on the balance of play probably well deserved.  From that point on we started to look a lot more threatening.  Rich put in some great passes from the right hand side that landed in behind the defence but we either didn't gamble enough on it going there or were just on the back foot.  Unfortunately not taking our chances would come back to haunt us just before half time.  Gaelic pumped another long ball ujp the park, this time to the shorter of the forwards.  We didn't deal with it and instead of just getting the ball away chose to let it go through to Andrew.  However the ball really didn't have enough on it and the Gaelic forward did extremely well in stretching to play the ball beyond Andrew.  Unlike the previous week heads didn't go down and we went in at half time still very positive. Couple of changes at half time and we went back out with the intention of keeping the tempo high.  In truth we didn't really match the same movement and pressing that we'd shown in the first half.  The flowing football started to look a little more laboured and it took a moment of quality from Purch to get us back in the lead.  The ball had been worked out wide and Purch worked hard to get into a dangerous position in the box, rather than try to find someone he instead placed the ball beyond the keeper from a tight angle.  Good to see Purch rewarded with another goal to add to his double against GAS and well deserved given the amount of work he put into this game.   The last 20 minutes were about keeping good shape at the back and maintaining a threat up top.  Gaelic had other ideas and continued to push forward, hitting the post and the bar on different occasions.  The last 15 minutes made this look a lot easier on the scoreline as Gaelic appeared to tire slightly whilst we seemed to find a second win.  Patrick got himself a second when he played a 1-2 with Julio before finishing beyond the keeper.  Credit to Todd for running the length of the pitch to give the defence something to think about on the left hand side.  Shortly after we got a fourth and it was the same two players involved again.  Ref blew the whistle shortly after and it was a happy United side running out with the points. Thanks to Gaelic for the game - played in the right spirit as always. Very solid performances across the team - great work from Nick in the centre, Purch up top, Alex out wide but MoM to Patrick this week for some great energy in linking the play and taking the game to Gaelic.  On to next week!

We played well but couldn't match some of Hibs younger legs and they had some decent players on show too. Two goals at end very much a result of that played out over the full game. Thanks for the game as always, Hibs. Left us licking our wounds and wondering if some of us should be looking at older leagues :). We'll bounce back!
