Rivals Vets 3 vs 4 Vikings Vets Football Club

To follow

First Viking Vets game of the season was against the runners up Rivals. We had a couple of close games againts them last season, with the most recent resulting in a lucky Vikings win. When first confirming the pitch location on google map the pitch looked kind of small. Once both teams stepped onto the pitch, after some temperature checks, it was clear that the pitch was more suitable for U11 than Vets games. It was simply too short. That showed very early on in the first half as goal kicks could reach the box and a well placed header/flick could result in a goal. Rivals had most of the position in first half but the short pitch really did not allow for much play. Rivals had a few good runs on goal, especially form their skillful striker, but luckily the quality of finishing lacked. Instead it was one of the Viking air bombs that resulted in the first goal. John nicely headed an Elbo goal kick bomb into the far corner. Skov could have also converted from another bomb but he was not in the mood. The first half ended with a 0-1 lead for the Vikings.  Second half was only a few minutes old when a defensive mistake allowed for Rivals to equalize. Rivals applied maximum pressure and about three minutes later, and another two defensive mistakes, the score line read 3-1 for the Rivals! The game was very even but somehow the Vikings managed to push Rivals back on the tiny pitch. First a long throw was allowed to bounce on the ground and with almost zero space available John still managed to poke the ball over the line. 3-2 and game on. With about 15 minutes to go John was fouled just outside the box and he took the matter into his own hands by hammering in the direct free kick with his hattrick goal. Vikings tasted blood and started pressing from all positions and Crouch was first over a loose ball in the box and gave Vikings a 3-4 lead. The Viking roar could be heard in every corner of the tiny pitch. With the lead Vikings pulled back and defended for the dying minutes. The game ended with a 3-4 win for the Vikings.  Thanks to Rivals for an exciting game. Hopefully next encounter will be equally close and competitive!
